AP and Municipal Bond Information Services announce new municipal bond index

NEW YORK — The Associated Press and Municipal Bond Information Services, LLC (MBIS), a national consortium of municipal inter-dealer brokers, announce the creation of the AP Municipal Bond Index, a breakthrough service built on market data aggregated from the MBIS member firms. The AP Municipal Bond Index will be the only benchmark based on observable, intraday pretrade and trade data and will be launched in the second half of 2016, with beta versions now available to limited market participants.  Andrew Kalotay & Associates has been engaged to build the index calculation engine.

AP compiles US Elections Style Guide

The Associated Press has compiled a list of U.S. political terms, phrases and definitions to assist in coverage of the 2012 national elections. The guidance encompasses the Democratic and Republican conventions to nominate presidential candidates; terminology for presidential races; campaign rhetoric; and elections for the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. Many of the terms are from the AP Stylebook. Others include writing with context and avoiding clichés.

Spain train crash: How a journalist’s quick thinking led to vital info

It was Spain’s worst rail disaster in 70 years. An express train careened off the tracks in a jumble of flying steel, killing 79 people. In chaos that followed one key question emerged almost instantly: Was the train driver speeding? Initial but unsourced reports indicated he was. Video of the crash from a security camera seemed to show this. But as in the immediate aftermath of most disasters, precise, reliable information was very hard to come by.

Advisory The Associated Press has compiled a style guide of essential words, phrases and definitions to help with spelling and usage of terms for the World Economic Forum Jan. 25-29 in Davos, Switzerland. The guidance includes key financial terms likely to figure in discussions. Some terms are from the AP Stylebook: https://www.apstylebook.com/. Others are common usage in AP news stories. The terms include input from European Regional Editor Niko Price, European Business Editor Phillip Tutt, Geneva Chief Correspondent John Heilprin and Paris Acting Chief of Bureau Angela Charlton, who are all involved in coverage of the Davos forum involving nearly 40 heads of state and 18 of the world's central bankers among 2,600 participants from nearly 100 countries.
