Starting this month, AP’s music reviews are getting a digital refresh. Each review will now include a star rating out of five and a short information box highlighting details like standout tracks, suggested skips and a “for fans of” recommendation.

The updates give readers a faster entry point into the review while keeping the depth and context AP’s entertainment coverage is known for.

“We’ve long been eyeing adding star ratings to our reviews, and the opening of a new Grammys eligibility window seemed like the perfect time to do it,” said Mallika Sen, AP entertainment editor. “The stars bring us deeper into the cultural conversation and help readers quickly intuit how good the album is. The new design and elements like ‘on repeat,’ ‘skip it,’ and ‘for fans of’ convey useful information — and some playfulness — all in snapshottable form.”
