Christina Cuesta Kline named senior editorial director of APNews 

In a memo to staff on Thursday, Vice President of Digital Platforms Saeed Ahmed announced that Christina Cuesta Kline has been named senior editorial director of APNews.com, the global news organization’s consumer-facing website: 

I’m excited to share that Christina Cuesta Kline will be joining AP as senior editorial director, APNews.com — an important new role at an important moment for our digital operation.

Christina will be responsible for the day-to-day editorial operation of APNews.com and our core digital surfaces. In practical terms, she will have daily oversight of APNews.com, as well as AP’s live blogs, social platforms, digital design and presentation, and editorial franchises. 

Christina comes to us from CNN, where she is currently Vice President of Programming and Distribution. In that role, she leads curation strategy for one of the world’s most visited news platforms, reaching roughly 115 million people each month. She operates at the intersection of editorial judgment, audience growth, product thinking and revenue realities. Her team at CNN has grown peak audiences, including doubling reach during her time leading weekend programming strategy; launched new products on core platforms; tested innovative features, including the use of AI tools to evaluate headlines and presentation; and helped shape the access-point strategy for CNN’s new streaming service

Earlier in her career, Christina worked at The Wall Street Journal, where she led both the homepage and app teams. Across CNN and the Journal, she’s had deep, hands-on experience running high-impact digital news platforms and leading teams through change.

As part of the structure we’ve been putting in place, Christina is responsible for the editorial engine that brings audiences to APNews and ensures our journalism is presented with clarity, authority and speed across platforms.

Laura McNeill, senior director for loyalty and growth, is responsible for habit-building initiatives, audience loyalty and donations, and the products that deepen relationships with our users, including newsletters, puzzles, games and commenting.

Christina and Laura will both report directly to me.
