The Associated Press today announced that it will provide its U.S. election results to OpenAI, reinforcing AP’s vote count as the undisputed standard of information about U.S. elections for media organizations and technology platforms worldwide.
As part of the agreement, AP will provide OpenAI with vote count results data for national, state and local races in major American cities from today through the 2028 general election.
“We are pleased to work with OpenAI to make available AP’s factual, accurate and nonpartisan elections data available to users of ChatGPT and OpenAI’s services,” said David Scott, vice president of AP Elections. “When people need information they can trust, they turn to AP. With this agreement, we’re helping make sure OpenAI and its tools can tell people around the world who Americans have picked to lead the nation.”
OpenAI joins a wide-ranging network of the world’s foremost media, financial and technology companies who rely on AP for elections data. With a history of accuracy dating to 1848, AP is the source of truth in U.S. elections, counting the vote, declaring winners and explaining the results of American elections to the public. In the 2024 general election, AP counted the vote and declared winners in nearly 7,000 races with a 99.9% accuracy rate.
