Film Writer Jake Coyle caused a major disturbance in the force when he revealed that actor Adam Driver and director Steven Soderbergh had scripted a new “Star Wars” movie but Disney refused to make it. The scoop – which created a viral stir thanks to a large and passionate fan base – was the culmination of years of trust-building and interviews between Coyle and the actor. After his conversation with Driver, Coyle elicited an exclusive statement from Soderbergh and went to Disney. Then the internet essentially went out … but despite the massive AWS outage, the story caused a sensation. “The Hunt for Ben Solo” and Driver trended, and Reddit threads, YouTube videos and a bevy of outlets picked up the news – all with credit to AP. Fans launched a campaign to get Disney to recant, paying for a banner-flying plane to fly over Disney Studios and a Times Square billboard.
