Be Well Climate India Heat Lessons

Climate solutions are often discussed in the context of long-term science and technology—timelines that stretch 10 to 20 years or more. But for people already living with the harsh impacts of climate change, particularly in developing nations, that horizon is too distant. They need answers now.

Two stories led by India climate correspondent Sibi Arasu demonstrate how seemingly simple, local solutions can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives today.

The first story explored practical efforts to cope with extreme heat: city bus stops equipped with sprinklers, and rooftops painted with reflective coatings to lower indoor temperatures.

The second focused on Indigenous women farmers who use “dream maps” to illustrate to lawmakers what their land could look like if it were properly protected. The maps are a visual advocacy tool, showing how sustainable practices and environmental stewardship could transform their communities.

Both stories were deeply visual, reported with contributions from Rafiq Maqbool, Piyush Nagpal, Ajit Solanki and Shawn Sebastian. They resonated with AP customers and readers, showing how climate reporting grounded in human experience can cut through and connect across borders.
