Alexandra Jaffe named national political reporter
Washington Bureau Chief Julie Pace today announced that Iowa-based reporter Alexandra Jaffe will become a national political reporter in Washington.
Here is her memo to staff:
I’m very happy to announce that Alexandra Jaffe, our intrepid Iowa-based political reporter, is taking on a new role as a national political reporter based in Washington. She’ll focus on the Democratic presidential primary and ultimately the 2020 general election.
Alex has spent the last eight months in Iowa, where she has consistently broken news on the Democratic race, written deeply reported stories about the issues animating the contest, and spent significant time learning from the voters who will pick the winner of the lead-off Iowa caucus. She quickly became one of the most well-sourced reporters in the state. That was particularly clear when she broke the recent story about a Tom Steyer adviser offering donations to local politicians in exchange for endorsements.
Alex joined the AP from Vice News Tonight, the nightly news show on HBO, where she served as a political correspondent. She spent the 2016 election as an embed for NBC News, covering Marco Rubio and Donald Trump’s campaigns. Alexandra also covered Congress and the 2014 midterms for CNN’s digital politics team and The Hill newspaper.
Alex starts in Washington this week. She’ll return to Iowa in January to cover the closing weeks of the caucus campaign before turning her attention to the next round of primary contests.
Please join me in welcoming Alex to Washington!
