I’m thrilled to announce that Brian Slodysko is joining the Washington bureau as our new money and politics reporter. The only people happier than we are to have Brian in Washington are politicians in Indiana, where Brian has been based since 2015.

He distinguished himself in AP’s Indianapolis bureau with a steady stream of scoops, including during the 2018 midterm elections. He also worked closely with the national politics team last year on campaign finance stories, giving him a strong foundation for his new beat.

Prior to joining AP, Brian worked at both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times, where he covered crime, courts and politics. He also did two stints as a legislative relief reporter for AP, first in Washington state and later in Louisiana.

Today is Brian’s first day in the bureau. Please join me in welcoming him aboard!

Also, a few other staffing moves to let you know about:

  • Congressional reporter Kevin Freking has rejoined the White House team after a strong stint on Capitol Hill. He’ll continue to closely track trade and tariffs issues as part of his portfolio.
  • Reporter Laurie Kellman has returned to Capitol Hill, where her focus will include the freshman lawmakers looking to make a mark on Congress.
  • Congressional reporter Andy Taylor returns to Capitol Hill as well today.

Thanks,

Julie
