Maya Sweedler named international elections manager
In a memo to staff on Thursday, AP Elections Operations Director Chad Day announced that Maya Sweedler has been named international elections manager:
I am thrilled to announce Maya Sweedler, an elections explanatory reporter on the Elections News team, is moving into a new role as international elections manager.
Maya, who is based in Washington, will lead the core team tasked with building the expansion of AP Elections into international election results. This includes spinning up the research, collection, organization and delivery of election results from countries around the world. Maya brings a strategic vision for international elections, a track record of executing complex projects on deadline and a deep understanding of elections and the demands of AP’s customers when it comes to accurate, real-time data. At AP, Maya has been a thought leader in reimagining our election visuals for customers and our own audiences. She has also played a key role in our explanatory coverage, organizing, drafting and editing rapid-fire and data-informed insights during the 2024 General Election (and more than a few others).
Maya holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in history and before joining AP was a senior editor at FiveThirtyEight. She also has experience in R, Python and cloud computing, which we will be taking advantage of as we work across the Elections team on the architecture and operations of this new product.
Please join me in congratulating Maya on her promotion. I’m excited to see all that she’ll help us accomplish.
Chad
