The Associated Press today announced that growing South African breakfast show, Dagbreek, is now using the AP ENPS news production system.
The region’s first weekday morning program in Afrikaans is expanding its news team and offering and requires a strong workflow system.
Dagbreek previously outsourced all of its news production, but AP ENPS version 7 will enable an internal team to easily gather and produce news packages. AP ENPS allows text and media to be combined into stories from the field or newsroom using any device, and offers increased flexibility to help them operate efficiently.
Real-time updates mean that wherever they are, the team can see newswires appearing and amendments to the running order or script changes, and the Storyboard collaboration tool allows them to organize and share content on any story both across their own newsroom and with colleagues anywhere in the world. Social media integration with Facebook and Twitter also means that they can interact easily with audiences.
“The reaction to our news offering has been overwhelming, and our viewers want us to increase the bulletin,” said Jako Krige, news editor for Dagbreek. “That means producing more content –and sourcing and researching it internally as opposed to outsourcing – as well as expanding the offering to include fully-packaged stories.

Training has shown it to be extremely easy to use and very accessible, and we look forward to seeing the reaction to our new offering as a result.”

ENPS has been represented throughout the sales and installation process by Inala Broadcast, the authorized AP ENPS distributor for southern Africa since 2007. Inala Broadcast will be heavily involved in installing, training and commissioning the system, as well as providing support to Dagbreek on an ongoing basis.
