Source reporting gives decisive and early scoop on ICC chief prosecutor’s removal  

Netherlands reporter Molly Quell’s source reporting has consistently put AP ahead since she helped break the news of the sexual misconduct allegations levied against ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan. Quell used her sources to give AP a detailed view of the process of the vote on whether to oust him, even as it was happening behind closed doors at United Nations headquarters in New York. She worked late into night at The Hague, working with U.N. reporters Edie Lederer and Farnoush Amiri. The preparation paid off: Quell’s sources confirmed the result, allowing AP to alert the decision more than two hours before the Assembly of States Parties made its formal announcement and significantly ahead of the competition. Quell also delivered video dispatches from outside the ICC.
