AP All-America at 100 Football

To launch its college football coverage with deeper reader engagement, a multi-department AP team centered its strategy on the wildly popular Top 25 poll and the 100th anniversary of the AP All-America team.

Instead of standard coverage, the team undertook a massive archival data project, digging through a century of scarce records. They successfully compiled a sortable, interactive database of all 1,900-plus first-team All-Americans since 1925. This historic AP feature fueled a rich, all-formats package featuring a fan-debated all-time team, historical photos, videos and interactives. Coordinated across Sports, Data, Video, Localization and Photo departments, the textured piece provided unparalleled depth.

The same innovative approach was brought to the preseason poll, with AP driving the conversation.
