AP journalists across the Caribbean delivered robust, all-formats coverage when Hurricane Melissa — the strongest storm to hit the region since records began 174 years ago — made landfall.
With an all-hands-on-deck approach, staff and freelancers filed from Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti, documenting devastation and human impact. Despite challenging conditions on the ground, the team pushed out a wealth of visuals, text and video. The work was widely used by customers around the world for several days.
Judges praised the visually driven coverage, the resilience of the team and the collaboration it took to deliver a comprehensive report in such difficult circumstances.
