Kanis Leung, John Leicester, Alex Turnbull and Will Jarrett collaborated on an all-formats presentation about a meticulously detailed, long-forgotten diary of a Chinese officer that had been rescued by urban explorers from a Hong Kong tenement block before its demolition.

The team wove together an engaging text story with an interactive, turn-the-page diary and a captivating video that paired the diary’s entries with audio narration by the former serviceman’s daughter. This brought personal history to life with emotional resonance and made the story accessible across formats and platforms.

The cross-bureau collaboration between teams in Hong Kong and Paris brought to life a forgotten chapter of World War II through creative storytelling. The visual design and user experience of the interactive diary allowed readers to engage with the handwritten notes and see them come alive.

The judges were impressed by the stunning visual presentation and globe-spanning collaboration involved in the story.
