In an unprecedented feat of planning, coordination and execution, AP’s global video team delivered a record-breaking 22-hour uninterrupted live video stream of New Year’s Eve celebrations around the world — from Auckland to Las Vegas.
Months in the making, the ambitious operation relied on the expertise and persistence of local video newsgathering teams across more than 30 global locations. From Tokyo and Seoul to Paris, Lagos and New York, the team captured a stunning variety of cultures and celebrations, overcoming regional and technical challenges to provide continuous, high-quality coverage.
Live planning leads Nuno Mendonça and George Negas orchestrated the timeline with precision, working in real time with AP’s Master Control Room to secure last-minute feeds, troubleshoot connectivity issues and keep the stream running flawlessly from start to finish.
On the day itself, AP’s live editors, producers and media managers handled dozens of feeds flowing in from the field. The digital video team played a key role in reviewing and publishing key moments to ensure the widest possible reach. Every component of the project — from local field reporting to global coordination — reflected AP’s deep commitment to logistical excellence and global storytelling.
Judges praised the coverage as a standout moment for AP’s live video operation, unmatched by any competitor in scope or continuity. It was not only a technical achievement, but also a celebration of AP’s reach, talent and teamwork.
