From pizza to the moon: Unique live content sees AP Live Choice reach 10k landmark
The Associated Press today announced that AP Live Choice, its multi-channel live video service, has now offered 10,000 live events since its launch in 2015.
With more than 600 live events per month offered across its three channels, AP Live Choice has rapidly become a trusted source of live video for global media organizations, offering an expansive range of coverage from breaking and developing news to entertainment, lifestyle, business, environmental and sports stories.
Unique to AP Live Choice is the diversity of content available. Events of particular interest this year included November's "Supermoon," when the moon made its closest orbit to earth, and the creation of the world’s largest pizza in Naples, Italy, in May.
"Our goal from the start has been to provide AP's customers with a comprehensive live service, giving a range of content to choose from," said Derl McCrudden, head of international video news at AP. "The fact we have produced 10,000 live events since the launch of AP Live Choice is a testament to the talent of our field teams. We have built our capability to cover more live events, delivering the best live service on the market."
He added: "Not only does this help with our core aim of being fast, but we have been experimenting with content types, and our customers have been responding positively. AP provides multiple angles live on the big stories, as well as a range of stories including hard news and slow news, all to help our customers build audiences on multiple platforms."
Upcoming events that will be covered on AP Live Choice include the opening of the Harbin Festival, the world's largest ice and snow sculpture festival in China, and Europe's largest fire festival, the Up Helly Aa Festival in Scotland, which includes the burning of a full-scale Viking ship.
