Maggie Hyde named global planning director
In a note to staff Thursday, Vice President of News Gathering Paul Haven announced that Maggie Hyde has been named global planning director:
In a news cycle that is perpetually hurtling at warp speed, and a media environment that is highly competitive, robust planning has become more important than ever to AP customers. That is even more true as our report becomes more visual, with more digital components around the biggest stories.
For that reason, I am thrilled to announce new leadership, new tools and a new approach to planning that will place it front and center in our report. Starting on Jan. 15, Maggie Hyde will take over as global planning director, reporting directly to me. Maggie, who has been leading a year-long look at our planning process, joined the AP as an intern in 2010. She is a former news director in Cairo and has had stints as a planner for both the Middle East and Europe. She has worked both as a reporter and a video journalist. Her experience makes her the ideal person to lead this global effort.

In the end, planning is content, just like a story or a photo or a piece of video. It can help us organize coverage; help customers make decisions on their own use of resources; and feed exciting initiatives such as AP Intelligence.
While Maggie is going to lead this effort for the newsroom, it will be the responsibility of the whole organization to make it work.
Please join me in congratulating Maggie on her new role.
