AP today announced that Roberta Rampton has been appointed White House news editor. Read the memo from Washington Bureau Chief Anna Johson and Deputy Washington Bureau Chief Zeke Miller:
We are excited to announce that Roberta Rampton is joining the AP as our new White House news editor. For the past six years, Roberta has been NPR’s White House editor, overseeing a team of journalists covering the Trump and Biden administrations for NPR’s radio programs, podcasts, website and newscasts.
As an editor, Roberta harnessed source reporting, planned major news event coverage and collaborated with NPR journalists in Washington, the U.S. and around the world to connect the dots and cultivate the right mix of breaking news stories and distinctive enterprise.
Previously, Roberta was a White House correspondent for Reuters where she covered the second Obama and first Trump administrations. She also has covered Capitol Hill, federal agencies, policy and more for Reuters in Washington and was previously a correspondent in Canada.
Roberta’s experience both leading teams and covering the White House at NPR and Reuters made her the ideal candidate to lead our talented White House team and coverage of the presidency. She brings a wealth of breaking news chops as well as innovative audio and digital storytelling skills to this role and is known for her collaborative approach to journalism and working across teams.
Please join us in welcoming her to the AP!
