Nominate the best of the week

Award journalistic achievements  and exceptional work

How it works:

Each week, The Associated Press awards honors for the news scoops or exclusives that did the most to enhance AP’s competitive position in the previous seven days. The Best of AP First and Second Winners are awarded with a cash prize and recognition for exceptional work. Honorable Mentions are named each week for work worthy of highlighting alongside the First and Second winners.

For special cases throughout the year there may be a “Special Citation” recognizing a greater team for exceptional work on a group of stories or a single stand-out piece worth showcasing outside the First and Second Winners.

The Best of AP competition is open to all AP staffers and contributors in all formats: text, photos, video, graphics/interactives and audio. Nominations should cite one individual or, if a group was involved, the few individuals who did the most to achieve the beat.

The weekly contest will run from Monday morning through Sunday night and includes work sent for use in Monday morning newspapers. Work published after 3 a.m. Eastern time Monday will be eligible for the next contest period.

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time Tuesday (0700 GMT Tuesday during daylight saving time, 0800 GMT Tuesday during standard time). Deadline extended 24 hours in weeks with a U.S. national or global holiday on Monday.
