Chad Day appointed elections operations director

In a memo to staff Thursday, Vice President for AP Elections David Scott announced that Chad Day has been named director of elections operations:

Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to announce that Chad Day is AP’s new director of elections operations.

Currently AP’s chief elections analyst and a decision editor, Chad will move into this new role overseeing the collection, editing and publication of the core data products that make up the AP Elections business. He starts Monday.

Chad brings a unique set of experiences to this role, having first joined the elections group as a race caller and statewide analyst while working as an investigative reporter in AP’s Washington bureau. After moving across town to The Wall Street Journal, Chad then became a customer of AP’s vote count, VoteCast and the related data products that make up AP Elections. (In his spare time at the Journal, Chad also won a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting.) He then returned to AP as our chief elections analyst and played a key role in “final mile” work on our new elections platform ahead of the 2024 presidential elections and the ongoing improvements and enhancements to our products and platforms.

This all makes him the perfect leader to work with the elections tabulation, quality control and research teams, as well as with our Elections Analytics, Elections News and Elections Technology groups, to carry forward our work into this year’s midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election that’s just over the horizon.

Chad will report to me and will remain based in Washington.

Please join me in congratulating Chad on his promotion. I look forward to seeing all that he will help us accomplish together

David
