Daisy Veerasingham, senior vice president and head of AP’s video business, said of Ronson’s appointment:

“Maria’s excellent leadership of AP’s Asian business is well known. This promotion reflects the tremendous contribution that Maria and her team have made to growing AP’s revenue in the region and also the increasing importance of Asia to our business”.

In March of this year AP appointed Brian Carovillano as news director for the Asia-Pacific Region. That reorganization brought all print, photo and video journalists under single leadership in the region and today’s announcement puts all Asia-Pacific sales responsibilities under Ronson.

A former journalist for the AP, Ronson was a senior regional editor for Worldwide Television News (WTN) before the merger with AP in 1998. She later became deputy regional editor for AP video before taking responsibility for Asia broadcast sales in 2000. Ronson is based in Hong Kong and oversees the commercial activities of the Associated Press in Asia which includes broadcasters, newspapers, key partners and new media in Asia. She manages a team of sales and marketing executives in the region.

Ronson’s commercial achievements include developing the broadcast markets for the AP in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. She has also overseen AP’s important relationships in China and Japan that have made AP the agency of choice in these important markets. She is part of a core group of senior managers within the AP involved in the video transformation of AP services.
