LONDON — An exhibit of Associated Press news photography depicting daily life around the world will be showcased at the Gyoko-dori Underground Gallery in Tokyo beginning Jan. 2, 2014.
Presented in association with Mitsubishi Estate Co. Ltd. and ALFO Co. Ltd., the exhibit comprises 56 striking news images from 31 countries. The images illustrate a wide variety of subjects and situations including culture, fashion, cuisine, animals, children and festivals. The pictures will be displayed with background comments from the photographers who captured them for added depth and context.
The exhibit will give visitors a unique view of everyday life around the globe, and in turn it will contribute to broadening Japan’s international perspective in the buildup to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
AP has a strong tradition of excellence in photojournalism. Throughout its history, AP has won numerous awards, including 31 Pulitzer Prizes for photography, most recently in 2013 for coverage of the civil war in Syria.
The gallery is located in Marunouchi, one of Tokyo’s central business and entertainment hubs and is directly linked to Tokyo station. The exhibit will be open to the public through April 22, 2014. Admission is free.
