At Rio sports conference, AP focuses on ‘second screen’

The AP unveiled a sequel to its popular 2012 sport video today, outlining how the “second screen” experience — combining TV and mobile devices — has become a new reality in the world of sport.

The new video — “The Big Game 2.0: Are You Adapting?” — was shown in Rio de Janeiro at Sportel, the international sports program market for television and new media, by Lou Ferrara, AP’s vice president and managing editor for sport and entertainment. Ferrara then led a panel discussion that included several leaders of digital and sport companies and FIFA. He’s also in Rio meeting with officials about the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The new video connects the dots of the changing media world among news organizations, advertisers, social media, digital devices and sport events worldwide — and how all of the changes are resulting in quickly evolving content consumption habits.

The video, co-produced with SNTV, is a sequel to “The Big Game,” which Ferrara screened last year in Tokyo at meetings about the future of Olympics coverage that included International Olympic Committee officials and representatives of news outlets from around the globe.
