National broadcaster of Norway, NRK, has reselected AP ENPS as its newsroom computer system to further drive collaboration between radio, TV and online news production, allowing journalists access to scripts, wires, media and messaging whether they are working on their desktop, tablet or smartphone.
NRK has over 2,400 users in around 20 locations across the country. It is on the air 24/7, with 88 percent of the population using one or more of its services on an average day. The new rollout will include ENPS 7, ENPS Mobile 3 and ENPS API.
“We need a system that ticks a lot of boxes,” said Jan Erik Roysi, NRCS project manager for NRK. “From a fast and intuitive story-centric workflow, rock solid reliability and social media integration, to cross-platform publishing and an open-API. We also need something that will evolve alongside changes in the industry. ENPS is committed to ongoing development upgrades, which ensures our systems will never be dated, even as our workflows change.”
AP ENPS version 7 enables an internal team to easily gather and produce news packages. AP ENPS allows text and media to be combined into stories from the field or newsroom using any device, and offers increased flexibility to help them operate efficiently. Real-time updates mean that wherever they are, the team can see newswires appearing and amendments to the running order or script changes, and the Storyboard collaboration tool allows them to organize and share content on any story both across their own newsroom and with colleagues anywhere in the world. Social media integration with Facebook and Twitter also means that they can interact easily with audiences.
For the first time, ENPS will be integrated with DAVID’s DigAS audio-automation system, including two-way MOS Protocol integration to allow control in either system. Combined with other technologies integrated through MOS (Mosart, VizRT, Chyron, Miranda, Quantel), as well as NRK’s CMS and in-house systems, ENPS will be the editorial heart of some of the most sophisticated and complete newsrooms in the world.
Egil Ljostad, system owner, concluded: “We have carried out a rigorous assessment of the leading newsroom systems in the market, evaluating functionality, quality, project management, support and cost. AP ENPS came out on top in this process and we are delighted to entrust our news workflow to it.”
The rollout of ENPS 7, ENPS Mobile 3 and ENPS API across the entire NRK enterprise will be completed over the next 12 months.
